HTML Meta Tags Generator - Create Meta Tags for SEO
What are meta tags and why do they matter for SEO?
Meta tags are HTML elements in the <head> that carry metadata about the page. Users never see them directly, but they are crucial for SEO and for sharing on social platforms. The title tag appears in browser tabs and as the headline in Google results. The meta description is the text Google shows underneath it. The viewport tag controls rendering on mobile. Robots tells crawlers whether to index the page. Canonical declares the preferred URL and prevents duplicate content. Well configured meta tags improve click-through rate in search and shape how engines understand your content.
The essential meta tags for every web page
Every page should carry a unique, descriptive <title> of 50 to 60 characters that includes the main keyword; a <meta name="description"> summarising the content in 150 to 160 persuasive characters; <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> for responsive design; <meta charset="UTF-8"> for special characters; and <link rel="canonical" href="..."> whenever duplicate versions exist. Pages that must stay out of the index need <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">. This tool builds all of those tags from the values you provide.
Common meta tag mistakes and how to avoid them
The frequent errors are descriptions that are too long, which Google truncates, or too short, which wastes the space; generic titles such as "Home" with no context; keyword stuffing, since Google has ignored meta keywords since 2009; the same title and description across many pages, which confuses Google about which one to show; a missing viewport tag, which breaks the mobile experience; a canonical pointing at the wrong URL; and an accidental noindex on an important page. Use this tool to generate correct tags, but make sure each page also carries unique, relevant content.

Frequently asked questions
Does Google still use the meta keywords tag?
No. Google stopped considering <meta name="keywords"> in 2009 because of widespread keyword stuffing, and Bing gives it minimal weight. It does no harm, but it does nothing for modern SEO either. Put your effort into a strong title and description, relevant content and a clean heading structure from H1 down.
What is the ideal length for a title and description?
Title: 50 to 60 characters, since Google truncates around 60. Description: 150 to 160 characters, as Google shows roughly 155 on desktop and about 120 on mobile. Put the important information first. Google sometimes rewrites descriptions when it decides another part of the page answers the query better.
Should I use the same meta tags on every page?
No. Every page needs a unique title and description describing that specific content. Duplicate meta tags confuse Google about which page to surface and dilute your SEO. For large sites, use dynamic templates that build the tags from each page content.
How do I check that my meta tags work?
Google Search Console shows how Google sees your pages. The browser inspector under Elements and <head> shows the current tags. For Open Graph, use the Facebook Sharing Debugger, and for Twitter Cards the Twitter Card Validator. Searching "site:yourdomain.com" on Google is also a quick way to see how your pages are presented.
